A robust motion estimation and segmentation approach to represent moving images with layers

چکیده
The objective of this paper is to provide a robust representation of moving images based on layers. To that goal, we have designed e cient motion estimation and segmentation techniques by a ne model tting suitable for the construction of layers. Layered representations, originally introduced in [4] are important in several applications. In particular, they are very appropriate for object tracking, object manipulation and content-based scalability which are among the main functionalities of the future standard MPEG-4. In addition a variety of examples are provided that give a deep insight into the performance bounds of the representation of moving images using layers.

Motion-Based Segmentation of Transparent Layers in Video Sequences
We present a method for segmenting moving transparent layers in video sequences. We assume that the images can be divided into areas containing at most two moving transparent layers. We call this configuration (which is the mostly encountered one) bi-distributed transparency. The proposed method involves three steps: initial blockmatching for two-layer transparent motion estimation, motion clus...
متن کاملCooperative Robust Estimation Using Layers of Support
We present an approach to the problem of representing images that contain multiple objects or surfaces. Rather than use an edge-based approach to represent the segmentation of a scene, we propose a multi-layer estimation framework which uses support maps to represent the segmentation of the image into homogeneous chunks. This support-based approach can represent objects that are split into disj...

Oceanographic images obtained from environmental satellites by a wide range of sensors allow characterizing natural phenomena through different physical measurements. For instance Sea Surface Temperature (SST) images, altimetry data and ocean color data can be used for characterizing currents and vortex structures in the ocean. The purpose of this thesis is to derive a relatively complete frame...
متن کاملIndependent 3D Motion Detection through Robust Regression in Depth Layers
This paper presents a methodology for the detection of objects that move independently of the observer in a 3D dynamic environment. Independent 3D motion detection is formulated as a problem of robust regression applied to visual input acquired by a binocular, rigidly moving observer. The qualitative analysis of images acquired by a parallel stereo configuration yields a segmentation of a scene...
متن کاملIllumination Invariant Motion Estimation and Segmentation
Extracting moving objects from their background or partitioning them have been one of the most prerequisite tasks for various computer vision applications such as surveillance, tracking, human machine interface, etc. Though many previous approaches have been working in a certain level, still they are not robust under various unexpected situation such as large illumination change. In this paper,...
